Key facts
- Typical shed install
- £150–£400
- Usual build time, DIY 8x6
- Half a day, two people
- Rarely included
- The base
A standard 8x6 shed is a half-day job for two reasonably practical people with a drill and a spirit level. Larger buildings, log cabins and anything with heavy glazing are a different proposition.
Pay for installation when
- The building is over about 10ft x 8ft, or uses 28mm+ interlocking logs.
- Panels are too heavy for two people to lift safely.
- The building includes large glazed units.
- Access is difficult and materials must be carried through the house.
- You want a workmanship guarantee on the assembly.
Check what is included
- Base preparation is almost never included — you must have it ready and level.
- Removal of packaging may be an extra charge.
- Treatment and painting are normally excluded.
- Confirm whether the fitter will position the building precisely where you want it.
